Let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the death of SD cards
Once there was a man who, having been burned many times in the past, was vigilant about maintaining backups of his personal data. He had the home RAID. He maintained both the cloud backup and the separate, personally managed offsite backup. Whenever a friend or family member suffered a data loss due to lack of backups, he was quite the condescending prick when delivering his platitudes.
In late 2019, this man started a WordPress blog using one of the Raspberry Pis in his house as a LAMP server. He was just messing around, so no need to backup. But then he got hooked, and before he knew where he was he had multiple posts and 1000s of words on this un-backed-up machine. The machine in question was just lying bare and exposed on his desk, so since he was now making serious use of it he bought a proper case for it. What a prudent man he was. He installed that Raspberry Pi into its shiny new case, but neglected to remove the SD card first. That card got caught between the two parts of the case, and damn near bent in half while he was screwing it together.
This is his story.
